This course is for those who lack confidence in their use of a PC or laptop whether you are just starting to use a computer or have been using one for while but don’t feel able to make the most of it. You will learn essential jargon and terminology - ‘byte’,’ operating system’, ram’ ,‘drive’ - and use this knowledge to operate your computer more efficiently. You will learn the key elements of your computer, the different settings and where and how to change them – control panel, device manager, file explorer – so you can add a printer for example, add and remove programs, change the time and date. You will practise using free applications on your computer and learn about different types of files, what do the endings mean (.doc, .tif, etc.), how can you save, store and find them, how can you share them, copy them, recover lost ones. Very importantly, how you keep your files and other information safe and maintain cyber security. Finally, you will learn how to trouble-shoot problems and not panic if things seem to go round! All of this will be done in a relaxed learning environment and the learning kept simple but motivating.
