About this course

Applicants should have 2 GCSEs at Grade D. Learners gaining or possessing a level one or the Introductory Diploma in Travel and Tourism would also be considered. Exceptions to entry requirements may be made for mature applicants.

What are the Course Details?
The course is designed to provide a specialist work-related qualification in a range of sectors. It has been developed to provide preparation for employment or for progression on to Higher Education. The Award, studied in the first year, is equivalent to 1 A' Level with progression to the second year to convert the Award to the Certificate or Diploma which are equivalent to 2 and 3 A' Levels respectively.


Is the Course for Me?
There are many diverse employment opportunities within the travel and tourism industry. This course offers you the opportunity to explore these whilst developing a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life. It provides an opportunity to gain a nationally recognised, vocationally specific qualification to enter employment or progress on to Higher Education.

What are the Entry Requirements?
Entry requirements are 4 GCSE's at Grade C; or equivalent vocational qualification including Maths or English at Grade C or First Diploma in Travel and Tourism with Merit.

What will I Learn?
You will learn the skills needed to work in the travel and tourism industry, the structure of the industry and the wide range of employment opportunities available. There are 18 units including:

How will I Learn?
Due to the variety of subjects, you will experience a range of learning methods throughout the course. These will include group work, guest speakers, role plays, work experience, presentations and DVD's. You will also benefit from practical work on Kingsway Travel & Tourist Information Centre and Kingsway Airlines mock cabin.

How will I be Assessed?
All work is continuously assessed through internally set assignments. You will build up a portfolio of evidence.

What Enrichments are Available?
A wide range of enrichments are available to complement the course including Spanish, Sport, GCSE English, and a lot more besides.

Are there any Trips or Visits?
There are day visits to Alton Towers and York and the opportunity to take part in a residential visit.

Is there any Work Experience?
Yes - one day per week over ten weeks, usually in the first term.

What can I Progress to?
On successful completion of the National Diploma you can progress on to the HND in Tourism and Hospitality Management or other higher education courses at a range of universities.

Other Learner's Experiences;
Some learners have successfully progressed on to the HND in Tourism and Hospitality Management. Others have progressed into employment with tour operators as Resort Representatives; airlines as Cabin Crew; travel agents as Travel Consultants - locally, nationally and internationally.
