What can this course offer me?
A BTEC National is a practical, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
The course is assessed wholly though coursework, with all tasks set by teachers. (This is different from other business courses where all of the assessment is through exams.) An overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction is awarded to students who complete the course successfully.
A BTEC National Diploma is worth the same as three GCE A levels.
What will I learn?
The content is extremely relevant, up to date and vital to all those with an interest in how organisations operate. The subject is one of only a few "live" subjects available- with fresh examples of both good (and poor!) practice emerging from the news almost daily.
Teaching methods range: many role plays and simulations through traditional to much independent and group work. There will be liaison with employers and links with company based/workplace training programmes.
All department staff incorporate ICT into learning and teaching at every opportunity, primarily through the use of interactive whiteboards.
What Makes a good Business student?
- good general communication and number skills;
- some experience of using a computer;
- a hard-working and well-organised approach to study
- enthusiasm and willingness to contribute in class
Which other courses link well with this subject?
Virtually any! One of the key advantages of this subject is that it combines most effectively with a variety of others. There is no common, best, or typical combination of subjects associated with Business Studies.
Future Opportunities
BTEC Nationals are valued by employers and lead to a range of business-related careers, where professional qualifications can often be taken, such as those offered by the Chartered Institutes of Marketing, Management Accountants and Personnel Development. Students may also progress into higher education, taking BTEC Higher Nationals or degrees.
Is there anything else I need to know?
You do not need to have previously studied Business at GCSE level or BTEC First level.
If you can display a flexible, keen and committed approach to this 100% assignmnet based subject, and work to the deadlines required, you will flourish in BTEC Business at KGV.
