What are the entry requirements?
At least four GCSEs grade C, including English and Maths, or above or an Intermediate Level GNVQ with merit or equivalent. You will be assessed on your English and Maths skills at interview. Induction is taken very seriously at this college. You will follow a five week induction where your suitability for the level and type of course you are hoping to be on will be assessed. Successful completion of the induction period will confirm your place on a course.

Reading: You can read and summarise information by selecting and using different types of documents to obtain relevant information; skim and scan documents to gain a general idea of content and identify the information you need; recognise the writer's intentions and identify the main points, ideas and lines of reasoning; summarise information to suit your purpose. Writing: You can present relevant information in a format that suits your purpose; structure your writing to help readers follow and understand your main points; spell, punctuate and use grammar accurately; construct complex sentences and make your meaning clear.
Interpret information: You can read and understand tables, charts, graphs and diagrams; read and understand numbers used in different ways; estimate amounts and proportions; make accurate observations and select appropriate methods to get the results you need. Carry out calculations: You can carry out calculations involving two or more steps, with numbers of any size, with and without a calculator; work with and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages; convert measurements between systems (e.g. pounds to kilograms); work out areas and volumes; work out dimensions from scale drawings; use proportions and calculate ratios where appropriate; compare sets of data of an appropriate size and use range to describe the spread within sets of data.
What qualification will I receive?
On successful completion of the course, you will achieve a OCR National Diploma in Business award which is equivalent of 2 GCE passes at grades A to E.
Where can it lead?
Successful completion of the OCR National Diploma in Business may improve your prospects with several routes of progression such as direct entry into employment within business, further learning opportunities within employment and progression to level 4 of general qualifications within the national framework.
What will I study?
Subjects you will study include: Investigating Business, Business Communication, Customer Service, and Finance of business.
You will also take eight specialist units in addition to Key Skills in ICT, Communication and Application of Number.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught through theory and practical sessions. Teaching strategies will include lectures, class exercises, work experience, working in groups, research, visits, video, presenting to a group and discussions. You will be required to spend an addition of at least 20 hours on private study.
How will I be assessed?
The course will be assessed through a number of assignments. Two of these assignments are set by the examination board and the others are set and marked by your lecturers and externally moderated by the examination board. You will be expected to sit externally assessed written tests for Key Skills units.

You will have access to a personal tutor to help you throughout the course and the College offers a comprehensive range of student services, including learning support, language support and guidance.
