Hazards and risks associated with confined space

This qualification is for candidates who work or want to work in the tunnelling industry during tunnel construction activities. You will learn how to safely enter, exit and work in a tunnel, esp. during construction activities. The course also covers both theoretical as well as practical safe emergency procedures. The course also helps delegates to understand the general hazards of working in a confined tunnel environment – including the safe use of self-rescue devices.
This qualification is a requirement for contractors wanting to work on major tunnelling contracts.

Course programme

Amongst other things the course covers:

· Hazards and risks associated with confined space and tunnel entry

· Oxygen re-breathers

· Personal and area gas detection equipment

· Access and egress equipment including fall protection equipment

· Practical use of the above equipment in a realistic but safe training environment

The course covers essential Health and Safety knowledge and practice for safe tunnel entry and associated emergency situations.

Candidates will experience entering a tunnel and what to do in case of an emergency situation. Amongst other things, candidates will be trained in the basic use of a breathing apparatus for self-rescue situations.
