Introduction:
The course is designed for those who are interested in basic communication skills for meeting or working with Deaf or Deafblind people. The course is designed to give the learner introductory-level knowledge and understanding about deafness and deafblindness. It describes what it means to be deaf, how being deaf affects one's ability to operate in society, and what assistance is available to improve communication between deaf and hearing people. This course is usually taken alongside BSL Level one however can be taken as an individual course.
Study Mode & Location:
This is a one year part-time course and will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent's Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.
Course Content:
The units you will study are as follows:
· Deaf and Deafblind Awareness-
· Communication Tactics with Deaf and Deafblind people.
Assessment:
Learners will follow a planned programme of study; this includes assessment for:
Deaf and Deafblind Awareness - This will take the form of a 20 minute multiple choice examination containing 16 questions.
Communication Tactics with Deaf and Deafblind people- This will take the form of an informal one to one discussion with your tutor.
Careers & Progression Opportunities:
The successful learner can progress to Deaf and Deafblind Awareness Level two.
How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
