About this course

Five days per week normally between 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on college days. However, placement days often start at 8.30 a.m and may end after 5.00pm

Description of the Course
This is a full time, level 2 course which provides a basic training for those who wish to work with children between the age of 0 to 16 years under supervision, in schools, nurseries, hospitals, residential homes, creches or families. It forms the preparation for the Diploma in Child Care and Education (DCE) and satisfactory completion will allow you access into the Diploma. You will undertake part of your course at college and part in training placements in the community so that you will gain experience with all age groups.
Course content
There are a variety of units to be studied, some relate to working with and caring for young children, others are about aspects of children's development and education. You will also learn about working with families and carers, with other professionals and the factors that affect children and their families. You will need a mature attitude and a great deal of commitment to complete this course but you should also find your studies rewarding and interesting Units:

· An introduction to working with children.
· The developing child.
· Safe, healthy and nurturing enviornments for children.
· Children & play.
· Communication & professional skills within childcare and education.
· The child care practitioner in the work place.
· Introduction to children's learning.

Assessment
National Assignments, Portfolios, college based course work, practical assessment in training placements and 3 external assessments, a multiple choice exam, short answer exam based on a case study and a short answer test at the end.
Who is the course for?
The course is suited to School Leavers interested in working with children or students who have successfully completed CFCC.
