About this course

Absolutely anyone over 19 years old, not studying an NVQ/QCF or enrolled on any other government funded course. These courses are even free to volunteers and unemployed individuals as well as those with degrees!

You can only do one course at a time must have a minimum of 8 learners to b signed up within one location, please contact to discuss further as we often have sign up dates in set locations for individuals to participate in.

In the UK today there are a large number of people living with a common health condition. These conditions have varying effects upon individuals, but they all require continual management to minimise the effect they have on an individual’s day to day life.

This qualification will ensure employees develop awareness of the signs, symptoms and treatments available for a variety of common health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, arthritis and physical disability. Learners will also discover how to care for individuals and enable them to manage, monitor and control their condition.

  • This course is split into manageable units. These are:
  • Unit 1: Understand how to contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions
  • Learners will discover how to monitor the health of individuals affected by health conditions, including observation, recording and reporting. This unit will also develop learners’ knowledge of the responses needed when there are changes to an individual’s condition.
  • Unit 2: Understand cardiovascular disease
  • Learners will gain an understanding of the cardiovascular system and the different forms of cardiovascular disease, including their signs, symptoms, causes and risk factors. This unit will also highlight the effects on an individual’s daily life, as well as the treatment and management options available.
  • Unit 3: Stroke awareness
  • This unit covers the different types of stroke and their signs, symptoms and effect on the individual. Learners will develop their knowledge of the response required in the event of an emergency and the support that is available following a stroke
  • Unit 4: Arthritis awareness
  • Within this unit learners will develop an understanding of the different types of arthritis including their causes, signs and symptoms. Learners will also expand their knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment options, support systems and management of arthritis.
  • Unit 5: Understand physical disability
  • Learners will discover the different forms of physical disability, their potential causes and the impact physical disability can have. This unit educates learners to provide support to individuals with physical disabilities, help them to manage their disability and maintain their independence.
  • Unit 6: Parkinson’s disease awareness
  • This unit provides learners with an understanding of Parkinson’s disease and its underlying causes. Learners will discover the signs and symptoms of the condition and its impact. This unit also outlines the treatment options, support services and strategies available for managing the condition.
