On this course you will gain knowledge of slab building. This skill can be developed to build simple geometric shapes, repeating 3-Dimentional pattern and irregular multi-faceted objects.
The course will introduce various techniques of mark making onto clay, including slip decoration, to give you the choice to add texture, pattern and colour to your work.

About this course

- Slab build a variety of forms.

- Understand how surface and form work together.

Sensible/old clothing is advised. There is a cost of £1.80 per 500g for clay before the first firing.

Course programme

Slab building straight and curved wall, various ways to create texture onto the clay surface using tools and found objects. Slip application by painting, stencilling, slip trailing, feathering, marbling, sgraffito and inlay.

Through practical demonstrations to the group, and individual discussions with the tutor. You are welcome to research any ideas, artists and other sources of inspiration for the next session. You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

Additional information

City Lit Ceramics offers a range of part-time, full-time courses and workshops at different levels. Students will be encouraged to progress onto more challenging projects at their individual level.
