Level: This is a Level 2 course.

What is the Certificate in Bookkeeping course?
The Certificate in Bookkeeping is a practical course where students will gain experience of bookkeeping within a small business environment.

Although there are no formal entry requirements, applicants should have a good standard of numeracy and literacy in order to be successful.

Course topics
  • Apply the basic concepts of double entry bookkeeping
  • Calculate VAT, keep a VAT account and complete a VAT return
  • Prepare and validate business documents
  • Process business transactions through the bookkeeping system, including books of prime entry
  • Prepare a trial balance
  • Prepare control accounts
  • Prepare cash and bank reconciliations
  • Operate the petty cash system
  • Use appropriate methods of making and receiving payments
Teaching and Learning
The course will include tuition in bookkeeping combined with practical exercises covering all aspects of bookkeeping. In addition to the class work, students will need to do one hour of homework per week.

Assessment details
At the end of June students will take two examinations which will be of two hours in duration, one will be in the morning and one in the afternoon which may require you to take time off work. (Dates to be advised).

This is a Learning & Skills Council (LSC) funded course and you may be exempt from the tuition fee, however you would be required to pay the registration fee at the time of application. Tuition fees for overseas students may vary from those quoted
