The course is externally validated by A.B.C. the aim of the course is to offer an insight into counselling. The objective is to allow students to engage in basic counselling skills and to critically examine personal potential in the role of counsellor. The course is offered both day and evening 1.00 to 4.00 or 6.00 to 9.00. Sessions are 3 hours and you will complete a minimum of 30 guided.

Learning Methods
The course content will be delivered using an experiemental, participative approach rather than a didactic one, Students will be encouraged to take resposnibility for their own learning throughout the course and in particular by keeping their own 'personal learnign journals'.

Understanding what counselling is and is not
Examining counselling within the context of helping professions
Development of basic counselling skills
Self examination and self-reflection
Personal development
The course consists of 3 units:
1. An appreciation of the basics of counselling, the professional context and relationship
2. An introduction to counselling skills
3. An introduction of personal development
Units 1 and 2 will be assessed by your tutor but self-evaluation and peer feedback will also form part of the assessment of these units.
Unit 3 will be an extended piece of reflective writing, which will be marked by an ABC examiner using a summary mark sheet.
