Certificate In Education Yr 1 (I) (Mon 5-9) (Univ Sund HE Franchise) AAA0162

Is it for me?
The Preparing to Teach and Certificate for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Skills sector (Level 4) are covered in the first year of a two-year programme of study for practising teachers, lecturers and trainers who work in the field of Post Compulsory Education and Training. The second year is the Diploma for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Skills sector (Level 5).
The programme is practical in its focus, builds upon the diverse experiences of course members and relates these to issues in teaching, learning, assessment and professional development.
The content of the course was updated in June 2005 to reflect the changing contexts and demands of professionals in teaching and training in the sector. The course incorporates latest versions of the Nationals Standards from the Standards Verification Unit (SVUK) of Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) for Initial Teacher Training (formerly FENTO).

What do I need?
Year 1
Standard entry qualifications include, a Professional Qualification, equivalent to NVQ 3 or above, Advanced Craft Qualification, Degree, or an HNC/HND and proof that you either possess or are working towards a minimum level 2 Qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
You must provide evidence that you will have 60 hours practical teaching (paid or voluntary) together with a reference from the employer or placement organisation for the academic year. Throughout the year you must show evidence of your experience in an Associate Teacher role.
Acceptance onto the course will be subject to a satisfactory police clearance. Further guidance will be given by the course team at interview or induction.

Year 2
Standard entry qualifications include, that you either possess or are working towards a minimum level 2 Qualification in Literacy and Numeracy, which must be completed by the end of the academic year.
You must provide evidence that you will have 90 hours practical teaching (paid or voluntary) together with a reference from the employer or placement organisation for the academic year. Throughout the year you must show evidence of your experience in a full teacher role.
You may be eligible for direct entry to Year 2 of the DTLLS, if you have, within the last five years, completed a Cert Ed Year 1 or equivalent qualification, together with a satisfactory teaching portfolio.
Those who currently hold a current City & Guilds 7304 (level 4) CTLLS will be required to attend a bridging programme. This bridge programme will seek to develop essential study skills required for work in year 2, including research and writing skills. This bridging programme requires attendance of two full days (evening provision may also be available).
During this programme students will be assessed for their readiness and ability to progress directly onto Year 2. All students wishing to move directly to Year 2 of the DTLLS must also provide evidence of undertaking 60 hours of practical teaching in the year prior to enrolment.

Exceptional Entry
Students, who do not possess Standard Entry qualifications, may apply to be considered for Exceptional Entry on the grounds of Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) and Experience (APEL).
Acceptance onto the course will be subject to a satisfactory police clearance. Further guidance will be given by the course team at interview or induction.
A criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to studying on this course, a number of factors will be taken in to consideration.
