The qualification has been designed as a second stepping stone to qualifications which will enable a teacher to gain either ATLS (Associate Teacher) or QTLS (Full Teacher).

What is the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector course?
This is the second of a new suite of qualifications leading towards QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning Sector).
It is aimed at those people who have already gained a PTLLS certificate, and who have an established teaching role. The qualification has been designed as a second stepping stone to qualifications which will enable a teacher to gain either ATLS (Associate Teacher) or QTLS (Full Teacher Role).
NB An interview is required before you can enrol on this course, if not progressing from a College PTLLS course.

- Principles and practice of Assessment
NB Candidates are also required to have access to a MINIMUM of 30 hours of Teaching Practice during the course - a MINIMUM of 3 hours of this to be observed by College Tutor/Observer.
Teaching and Learning
This award is made up of 3 Mandatory Units, coupled with further Optional Units. It has a total minimum value of 24 Credits.
The Award is offered at two Levels. Level 3 is aimed at those people who are teaching in an Associate Teaching Role and will apply for ATLS (Associate Teacher Learning and Skills) once they have gained this certificate
Level 4 is aimed at those who already work in what might be termed a traditional teaching role i.e. responsible for both planning and delivery of courses. As such this qualification forms the second stepping stone towards full QTLS status.
Assessment details
Assessment is via a series of theoretical and practical assignments which are set and completed during the course.
Progression
- ATLS status if your role is that of Associate Teacher.
- Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) City & Guilds Certificate No. 7305
- Certificate in Education Year 2.
NB The College will be closed on 22 February 2010
This is a Learning & Skill Council (LSC) funded course and you may be exempt from the tuition fee, however, you would be required to pay the registration fee at the time of application.
