About the course:
This course is for those interested in working with young children and wanting to gain a nationally recognised qualification. It includes work experience in a variety of Early Years placements.

As well as gaining essential knowledge and skills to care for and educate young children, the course will prepare you to work with other professionals and volunteers, raising your awareness of their importance in providing a service for children and their families.

Course Content:
The aim of the course is to equip you with both the knowledge and skills to care for young children. You will also have the opportunity to experience real life parenting.

The course consists of six Core Modules and one optional Module, which are taught and assessed over one, two or three terms. The coursework is closely related to your placement experience, which will involve two days placement per week in a school, nursery or private family.

Core Modules (Studying Children 0 - 16 years old)

• An introduction to working with children
• The developing child
• Safe, healthy & nurturing environments for children
• Children and play
• Communication and professional skills within childcare and education
• The childcare practitioner in the workplace
• Working with young children
• Preparing for employment with young children

Optional Module:
Working with children from birth to age 5 years

Progression:
The CACHE Certificate will enable you to work in an assistant type capacity. Examples of roles include:

• Nursery Assistant
• Pre-school Assistant
• Crèche Assistant
• Parent/Toddler group Assistant
• Playgroup Assistant
• Toy Library Worker
• Homestart Worker

Or you may progress on to the Level 3 Diploma/Certificate/Award in Child Care and Education. An overall C grade is desired for progression.
