About this course
A minimum of 4 GCSE's at grade D or above (including English Language and a further 3 in core subjects) or CFCC (Foundation in Childcare) at Merit.

Who is the course for?
This course is for people who wish to work with children in a supervised role with children aged 0 - 7yrs 11mths.
What is the course about?
The course provides an underpinning knowledge and understanding to work in childcare. The course is in unit form and covers:
- Physical care and development of the child
- Working with children
- Working with parents
- Emotional and social development of children
- Preparing for employment
Placement is a compulsory aspect of the course and students will attend 2 days each week in a setting arranged by the placement co-ordinator.
You will also study a range of basic skills as part of the course. Basic skills enables you to demonstrate employability in the workplace. These are a compulsory part of the course.

A current police check must be carried out before acceptance onto the course.
How long & often do I attend?
This course is offered as a one year programme and requires attendance of several sessions per week. 50% of the course is placement undertaken in a variety of settings with the age range 0-7yrs .11mths.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment of the course is through assignments and a multiple-choice examination
What opportunities will this lead to?
Progression to the DCE (formerly NNEB).
NVQ level 3 in Early Years Childcare and Education.
Employment in private day nurseries, creches and playgroups as a nursery assistant.
