A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (including English Language and a further 3 in core subjects) or CCE (level 2) at Merit or BTEC First Diploma Early Years at Merit.

Who is the course for?

What is the course about?
The course inlcudes 12 units covering all areas of childcare and education. Part of the course allows you to develop skills of observation and curriculum planning through a variety of placements. Other units include:
- The Developing Child
- Health and Comminity Care
- Play Curriculum and Early Learning
- Work with Babies 0-1yrs
- Preparation for Employment
- Child Protection Services
You will also study a range of key skills as part of the course. Key skills enables students to demonstrate employability in the workplace, and they are a compulsory part of the course.
Will I need anything else?
A current police check must be carried before acceptance onto the course.
How long & often do I attend?
This course is offered as a two year programme and requires attendance of several sessions per week. 50% is placement undertaken in a variety of settings within the age range 0-7yrs 11months.
How will I be assessed?
Through unit assignments, portfolio of child observations and placement experience, plus a final test paper.
What opportunities will this lead to?
As a Nursery Nurse you will be able to work in a wide range of areas including private day nurseries, schools, special schools, private houses and health or social services.
Progression to higher education also includes Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies, Teaching, Nursing and Midwifery and Social Work.
