Students will benefit from being taught by experienced staff who have worked in schools, nurseries and the health service. Students will experience quality practical training from our excellent network of work placements in schools and nurseries. All students who qualified last year are now employed in local nurseries or schools or have gone to study at university.

What will I study?
To gain the diploma, the candidate must complete and pass nine mandatory units and three option units from a selection provided by CACHE. Candidates will be accredited for all units completed successfully
The mandatory unit titles are:
· Introduction to working with children.
· Development from conception to 16 years.
· Supporting children.
· Keeping children safe.
· The role of the practitioner.
· Promoting a healthy environment for children.
· Play, learning and education.
· Caring for children.
· Development of professional skills.

How is the course assessed?
All units are assessed through external assignments and coursework. Students must complete mandatory placement hours and a portfolio of evidence. Short written examinations are attached to some units on the course and will be completed at intervals throughout the two year period.

What enrichment will there be?
Students will take part in various specialised placements and visits to professional establishments including special care baby units and special schools. There will be various opportunities to get involved in enrichment activities such as trips to London, Euro Disney and the theatre.

What could I do next?
This is a recognised childcare qualification and can be used to work as a nanny, au pair or nursery nurse. The course also offers access to a variety of university degrees including teaching and social work.
