Course programme

We will translate, examine and discuss Sophocles’ play Oedipus at Colonus.

Whole class work; reading and translating original texts, tutor posing questions and answering questions raised by the students. General discussion on language, style, main topics, etc. Students will be asked to prepare a portion of the text for each class. Homework: about 2-3 hours per week. Any edition of the play. Recommended: The Oedipus Coloneus of Sophocles: With a Commentary Abridged from the Large Edition of R.S. Jebb, by E.S. Shuckburg (Cambridge University Press, 1903).
