I am currently on a Level 2 apprenticeship at Unilever where I work with pneumatics and hydraulic machinery, so what I learn on my course is perfectly suited to this. My tutors are excellent and are always there to help no matter how daft I think the question is.

Having just finished the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Engineering (Maintenance/Mechanical Engineering) I can now highly recommend this course. The staff at Wakefield is always polite a helpful. Lots of courses on offer for people. Always very busy. Thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the course. Tutors were very helpful and always supportive. Each subject had great mix of classroom based studies, assignments, field trips and group work.

My journey began back in 2013 when I enrolled on to the public services course at Wakefield College (Thornes Park). Even though I completed the full year I realised this course wasn’t for me so I enrolled on to another course the year after called progression pathway which helped me decide what was best for me. This course taught me how to put a CV and cover letter together, it also gave me the skills on how to perform at an interview. We also learnt what it could be like in the working environment. But most off all throughout this course they helped me gain two work placements, the first being a teaching assistant where I helped out with classroom activities, I found this really rewarding as I was helping out young students develop in education. My second placement was working at Burberry in Castleford in the Engineering department; I really enjoyed this role because it was a physical job where I got to use my hands but also took a lot of thinking and problem solving. While I was working in this department I showed willing, had good initiative and got along with everyone there. As I finished my work placement I went back to college to continue with the course. After a few months I had a phone call from the Engineering manager that told me I did really well on my placement and was invited for an interview for the chance of gaining an apprenticeship within the Engineering department at Burberry. A few days Passed by and I received phone call to announce my success of getting the Engineering apprenticeship, after the call I got asked to go down to London to start my week long induction and meet the other apprentices from other areas of Burberry. Whilst I was there I had to learn many things about the company and see how it worked, we had to complete many tasks and activities. When I started my job at Burberry as a mechanical engineer I needed to learn all aspects of textile machinery, whilst working for Burberry I am currently at Wakefield College Day release doing my PEO level 2 Mechanical Engineering to progress onto an ONC in mechanical engineering. This shows my road to success and little bit off hard work and determination goes a long way.
