It also improves the learner’s knowledge and understanding of a range of health conditions of which their patients or clients may be experiencing.

Unit 2 - Arthritis awareness
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the definition of the term arthritis Outline the most common types of arthritis
- Explain how the most common types of arthritis can affect joints
- Describe the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
- Outline the possible causes of arthritis
- Outline the risks of arthritis
Unit 3 - Dementia awareness
Learning outcomes:
- Understand what is meant by the term ‘dementia’
- Learn about the key functions of the brain which are affected by dementia
- Understand why depression, delirium and age-related memory impairment may be mistaken for dementia
Unit 4 - Stroke awareness
Learning outcomes:
- Identify the changes in the brain that are associated with a stroke
- Outline the other conditions that may be mistaken for a stroke
- Define the differences between stroke and a Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA)
Unit 5 - Introductory awareness of sensory loss

Course Assessments
This course is marked through a process of continuous assessment guided by your tutor following standard guidelines. This means that your qualification will be awarded according to your performance on assessments rather than by taking an exam.
Upon verification of the activities, exercises and assignments, a certificate of achievement will be awarded by Ascentis, as confirmation that your written work has met all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the programme
