This course offers a comprehensive and creative approach to learning how to paint from observation and develop your experience in paint handling. The carefully constructed exercises will take you through the all the steps you need to learn the fundamental painting skills from scratch, such as use of tone, colour and painting technique. Once this level is reached at the end of term 1 it is possible to continue developing your painting skills through terms 2 and 3 to complete the full Saturday Painting Course.

About this course

- use paint to describe the basics of tonal structure
- explore composition in painting
- mix colours using basic colour theory
- use a range of painting techniques such as 'impasto', 'scumble' and 'glaze'
- identify the work of a variety of artists.

Demonstration and practical application. One to one and group discussion. Basic materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring any extra or special materials. Additional information

This course leads on to Complete Painting 2 at the same time on Saturdays in Term 2, which prepares you for the technical approaches necessary for oil or acrylic painting. You are encouraged to attend both Complete Painting 1 and Complete Painting 2 for maximum benefit. You may also go onto other painting courses such as Ways Into Abstract Painting, Painting and the Creative imagination or Painting and Photography.
