Aim This is a 1 year Diploma Award in Carpentry providing workshop training which delivers practical skills and underpinning knowledge for carpentry. Students will undertake practical work activities in our state-of-the-art workshops and will be taught by experienced professionals from the industry.
Content
The programme consists of practical training and phase testing, assignments, coursework and a Gola online exam.

Units include:
· Handling and storing resources
· Contributing to working platforms
· Preparing materials for use
· Using components and materials
· Learning and practising skills of the carpenter and joiner.

Assessment methods
City & Guilds/CSkills awards credits are continually assessed throughout the programme and a portfolio of evidence is assembled throughout the course. An online multi-choice exam will assess the knowledge content of the course.

Progression/career opportunities
Successful students will be able to progress to an NVQ Level 2 if they are employed in the industry or could progress to an Level 2 Diploma in Construction Skills Carpentry & Joinery if they wish to stay in full-time education.

Extra information Students will be required to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) including overalls and boots. There is a £60 fee on all construction courses to cover the cost of your equipment including text books, files, pens, pencils, scale ruler, tape measure etc. to be paid at enrolment.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
