What are the Course Details?
This course is intended for learners who have already achieved a Level 1 Diploma in Wood Occupations and wish to become qualified Joiners.


Is the Course for Me?
This course provides a solid base of practical skills and theoretical knowledge for learners aiming to become competent carpenters.
The construction industry can be an exciting but demanding industry in which to work. The workforce must be prepared to travel, adapt quickly, and follow essential health and safety procedures.
The subjects studied will enable learners to prove their competence in the construction industry.


What will I Learn?
As part of the Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery (Site Carpentry Route) learners will study the following units:

How will I Learn?
Learners will begin with training activities in the College's practical workshop, which will then lead to them undertaking assessments once occupational standards have been met. Throughout the course there will be planned theory sessions which will cover the knowledge necessary to find employment as a joiner, these sessions will be delivered in a variety of different learning styles to suit all learners requirements.

How will I be Assessed?
Learners will achieve their qualification by completing practical activities and question papers. These will be marked by the teaching staff who are also registered assessors.
Learners will also have to undertake a practical test set by the awarding body, two multi-choice exams set by the awarding body and an external health and safety test.


What Enrichments are Available?
Learners will have access to a wide range of enrichment activities within the College to develop and broaden their experience of College life. Activities range from paintballing days and sports teams to Air Cabin Crew and trips to Meadowhall.


Are there any Trips or Visits?
In previous years learners have attended and taken part in the annual Skill Build competition.
Trips have also been organised to trade exhibitions and guest speakers from industry have been invited into the College to share their knowledge and experiences.


Is there any Work Experience?
Many learners who have attended College on construction courses have been moved into permanent employment during their studies.


What can I Progress to?
Learners who wish to continue their studies may progress onto the Level 3 Diploma. Where employment is compatible with the qualification the Level 3 Diploma may be undertaken with NVQ Level 3 to acheive an Advanced Apprenticeship.


Other Learner's Experiences;
Many past learners have gone on to study higher level courses or have found employment with local employers as Joiners.
