Aim This is a 1 year Diploma Award in Carpentry providing workshop training which delivers practical skills and underpinning knowledge for carpentry. Learners will train in a state-of-the-art workshop environment and will be taught by experienced professional from the industry.
Content
Units include:
· Handling and storing resources
· Erecting and dismantling basic working platforms
· Preparing materials for use
· Using of portable power tools
· Marking out joinery
· Producing joinery products.

Assessment methods
These will consist of individual unit multi-choice tests and a summative end exam which again will be multi choice. The practical skills will be assessed on a continual basis with a final test piece set by CCA.

Progression/career opportunities
Successful learners can progress to an NVQ Level 2 if they are employed in the industry or Advanced Construction Award in Carpentry & Joinery if they wish to stay in full-time education.

Extra information Students will be required to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) including overalls and boots. There is a £60 fee on all construction courses to cover the cost of your equipment including text books, files, pens, pencils, scale ruler, tape measure etc. to be paid at enrolment.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
