About this course
Candidates must have obtained the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TCL4) or its APL and/APEL equivalent (minimum 420 guided learning hours), in addition to appropriate pre-TCL4 training.

About the course : This qualification is intended for candidates who want to develop CBT skills and theory as an integral part of their counselling work. This is a vocational qualification combining workplace learning and academic study, designed to meet the requirements of employers in providing CBT. Practitioners will develop proficiency as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist at a placement agency or workplace, under clinical supervision.
Course content : You must be in an appropriate setting that would support you working with at least 3 clients (aged 16 or over) using the CBT model, under clinical supervision. Supervision requirements: The course includes group training supervision in addition to the candidate†s own supervision arrangements for their external work as per BACP/BABCP minimum requirements. The course consists of Theory Seminars with experiential work, skills practice and a case study presentation. Assessment by way of a Candidate Portfolio including, Reflective Learning Reviews, Case presentation and externally assessed Case Review (3,000 - 3,500 words).
After this course : Successful candidates may progress onto further training in counselling, psychotherapy and counselling supervision (provided they have acquired at least one year (part-time) of post CBT-L5 supervised clinical experience). The Open University provides further training routes with credits for CPCAB qualifications at Levels 4 and 5.
