Digital Photography (Part-Time Evening)

Course Overview
Digital Photography is designed to be studied over a ten-week period, with two hours of study each week. There are two pieces of work that should be submitted during the course. However, to get the most out of the course we advise that you also take part in the weekly photo assignments which will not be assessed but will build up your skills and understanding of photography.

Students who complete this course are able to apply for an 8 week module in Studio and Landscape Photography which begins 27th April 2010 - see separate sheet.

Course Structure
The course is a creative mix of practice, learning, and reflection which includes:

• How to understand and get the best from your digital camera;
• How to take a better photo using composition techniques;
• The Digital Darkroom using Adobe software;
• Digital Black and White;
• Photo manipulation and special effects;
• Presentation of work.

Qualification Aims
At the end of the course you will be awarded a College Certificate of Achievement. This certificate however will not count as a recognised qualification although the skills you will develop may count towards enabling you to study photography at level two or three.

Assessments/Examinations
There is no final exam or test. Assessment is based on portfolio work assembled during the course.

10 week course:£210 (no concessions)

You will also need your own memory stick or removable USB storage media of at least 1GB.

Learners who complete either of these courses can apply to join the Studio and Landscape Photography course at additional cost (8 weeks starting Tuesday 27th April 2010 at 6.15pm - see separate sheet)

Requirement
This course will appeal to a wide variety of people: those completely new to photography; those wanting to make the transition from film to digital photography; and amateur photographers, wanting to top up their skills. The course does not assume any prior knowledge of photographic techniques or digital photo-editing skills. We assume that you might be fairly new to computing but are not a complete beginner. However, applicants should be aware that most of the course will involve working with computers.
