Diploma in Personal Training and Instruction - Level 3 Overview

This course will teach you how to offer one to one training and nutritional advice and design programmes tailored to the individual needs of the client.

The knowledge and skills you gain will help you to develop a career as a personal trainer. Part of the course also includes a placement at a local gym for ‘on the job’ training/assessment.

English and maths are a mandatory part of the course and you will be required to study these at the appropriate level, which will be determined by your previous achievements in these subjects. These qualifications are designed to enhance your employment opportunities and support you to progress.

Entry requirements

  • Achievement of the Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym) at Level 2 (mandatory)
  • Achievement of the Diploma in Health and Fitness and Exercise Instruction (preferable)
  • Inform us of any past health issues

You will need to attend an interview with the tutor before being accepted on to the course. You may also need to supply at least one written reference from a teacher or employer (in some cases two) and/or your current school or college report.

Mature students (those aged 21 or over) who do not have the qualifications required for entry may still be eligible, subject to an interview. Relevant experience, a strong portfolio of work and a commitment to the subject you wish to study may be acceptable for certain courses.
