Theoretical Element (Exercise and Fitness knowledge) includes: AnatomyPhysiologyKinesiologyComponents of FitnessHealth and Lifestyle ScreeningInformed ConsentSession Structure and the Principles of Exercise Progression and Adaptation

Practical Element includes: Planning, teaching and evaluating all components of safe and effective exercise sessions. Entry requirements: Entry onto this course is by application only. Candidates must be 18 years or over and must hold a Level 2 Functional Skills Qualification or GCSE English Language at Grade C or above. Previous experience in the Exercise and Fitness industry would be beneficial but not essential. Candidates must complete a part-time application form before enrolling. Teaching & Assessment: Theoretical Element: Exercise and Fitness Knowledge. This element will be delivered via distance learning; therefore the students will be responsible for their own independent study and a written examination will take place one week prior to the commencement of the practical element. Practical Element: Assessment is continuous, including observations, written plans, evaluations, oral questioning/worksheets. Candidates will be required to plan, teach and evaluate a 45 minute session. Progression: This qualification may lead to employment as a fitness instructor in the fitness industry or progression onto: CYQ Certificate in Fitness Instructing – Gym Based Exercise Level 2 (QCF) CYQ Award in Circuit Training Level 2 (QCF) CYQ Award in Group Indoor Cycling Level 2 (QCF) CYQ Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Exercise and Physical Activity for Children Level 2 (QCF) CYQ Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Water-based Exercise Level 2 (QCF) CYQ Certificate in Personal Training Level 3 (QCF) Additional Information: Please note that if you are considering employment in the sports and fitness industry you may be asked by the employers to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you have not already gained a Level 2 Communications or GCSE qualification you will be asked by the College to complete a level 2 diagnostic test before enrolling Qualification: YMCA Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing
