Course programme

Teaching is in small classes, with an emphasis on interactive problem solving and case studies.

Each day will cover the following topics:

Day 1
  • Centrifugation principles and design
  • Ultra scale-down of solid-liquid separation operations
  • Filtration principles and process performance
  • Microfiltration/ultrafiltration operational characteristics
Day 2
  • Pilot-plant and ultra scale-down studies: centrifugation
  • Intracellular product release
  • Bioprocess application of centrifuges
  • Ultra scale-down filtration and cell recovery and membrane separation operations
Day 3
  • Pilot-plant studies: microfiltration
  • From lab scale to manufacturing: micro-filtration technologies for product recovery and purification
  • Ultra scale-down of conditioning and recovery operations: precipitation, crystallisation and flocculation
  • Use of adsorptive depth filtration in biopharmaceutical manufacturing
Day 4
  • Simulation studies: the role of microfiltration in whole bioprocess studies
  • Cell engineering to ease primary recovery
  • Primary recovery process development with an integrated approach

A social networking event will be held for delegates and speakers.
