Who is this course for?
This course is open to anyone with an interest in drawing and painting regardless of any previous experience.

What previous knowledge/experience are required?
There are no entry requirements as the course is open to all levels of ability.

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
Topics included on course - positioning, shading, line and tone/ perspective/ selection of subject/ choice of composition/ use of sketchbook+ models are used twice per term. Media will include- pencil, charcoal, pastel, crayon, acrylic, oil and mixed media on a variety of surfaces and sizes. By the end of the course you will improve your skills in observation, drawing and painting. Learning outcomes:
  • Know how to use a range of drawing materials to represent simple shapes forms and tones from observaton
  • Know how to use colour media to represent observed colour from simple arrangements of colour
  • Know how to use judgement to record simple shapes, forms and tones
  • estimating proportion and recognising positive and negative shapes
What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Demonstration and practice are main methods used. You will also regularly discuss your ideas and your work with the group and criticism sessions are held once per term.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
Continuous one to one feedback, group assessments and critique including written feedback on ILP's. Your general progress will be monitored in class and there will be regular group discussion about work in progress.

What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
A WMC Certificate.

What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
No requirements.

What can I do after completing this course?
On completion of this course you will be able to progress on any of our painting and drawing classes at any appropriate level or our Access to Higher Education programme.

Are there any other costs? (e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
You do not need to provide any materials. A basic stock of materials is available from the college.
