This course is perfect for people wanting to take their playing further and to build confidence in musical ability, in a supportive and positive group environment.
Learn to play a wide variety of musical styles including Rock, World Music, Jazz, Reggae and Funk confidently and authentically.
Develop playing skills acquired in Drumming Intermediate, or equivalent previous playing experience.

About this course

Course programme

- Contemporary rock, jazz, funk, and world music styles
- Establishing a good practice routine
- Developing coordinated independence to enable a solid technique
- Improving stick control through a sound understanding and application of rudiments
- Tunes from the Rockschool grade 4 syllabus
- Sight reading
- How to use a wide variety of drum books effectively.

Learning as a group, using 4 or 5 acoustic kits, practice kits and pads, playing together and solo Tutor demonstrations; recorded and youtube samples will support learning Playing by ear, and using notation of various kinds Learning grooves by ear and from notation. Students are encouraged to create a forum to share knowledge, to film examples in class, and to keep a record of their learning. E learning is built in to this course. Please expect to dedicate time to practise between classes: there will be homework focusing on specific skills, and you should be prepared to devote time to general study of the instrument.

Additional information

You may be interested in other percussion courses such as Latin percussion or Play congas to broaden your skills base and musical ability. You may also wish to join one of our Jazz ensemble courses next academic year.
