For those who can’t get enough of Joyce– or for those who would like to know what all the fuss is about, this course will introduce you to the realm of Modernism and Joyce’s experimentation in language. We will be looking at an early short story, “Two Sisters” as example of Joyce’s blending of realism and modernist experimentation to expose struggles, societal flaws and the struggle between interior and exterior realms. We will also look at “The Dead” which reveals the moment of transition for Joyce into the experimental genius of his novels.
