The course content is informed by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) National Curriculum and Framework for Emergency Nursing.
It provides a foundation for caring for people throughout the life span and with conditions specific to all body systems.
Elements unique to emergency care will be covered including major incident management, emergency care of children and younger people and minor injury management as well as emergency mental health care. In addition the course will include initial assessment and treatment of acutely ill adults. Specific cross-cutting themes such as medicines management and safeguarding concerns will be integrated throughout the course elements. This course will give academic accreditation to the specialist knowledge and skills required to work in an emergency care setting.

About this course
This course is aimed at health professionals working in an emergency care setting. It aims to encourage clinical and professional development, leadership skills and career progression in emergency care.
This short course will assist you to meet the specialist skills and post-registration development requirements stipulated by your employer/professional regulator.
Have an honours degree at 2:2 or above or can demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills at honours degree standard. We will consider other qualifications and experience on an individual case basis.
You must be a health or social care practitioner, registered with a professional body such as the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Emergency Care of Special Circumstances and Vulnerable Groups
This module provides you with an opportunity to enhance your knowledge and understanding of the emergency care in special circumstances and with vulnerable groups for example children or older people. Emphasis throughout the module will be placed on the holistic assessment of the vulnerable individual/group with development of subsequent management plans from which to provide optimum care.
Assessment, Care and Management of the Acutely Ill IndividualYou’ll be provided with the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and understanding of the pathophysiological effects of acute illness or traumatic injury along with the examination of current evidence and developments in this field of care. Emphasis throughout the module will be placed on the holistic assessment of the individual with development of subsequent management plans from which to provide optimum care. You’ll be assessed through two pieces of coursework.
Teaching and assessmentThe modules are delivered through a range of teaching methods including lectures, small group tutorials and simulation. Assessment involves a variety of methods including essays, individual presentations and practice-based portfolios of evidence.
