Suitable for: This course is designed for people who will act in support of Designated First Aiders and deputise for them during unplanned absence. Emergency first aiders alone are insufficient to meet health and safety regulations.

Course programme
Depending on its size, each establishment is required to have a Designated First Aider and at least one emergency first aider.
To enable participants to understand the role of the first aider including reference to:
1) the importance of preventing cross infection;
2) the need for recording incidents and actions;
3) use of available equipment;
4) assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
5) administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
6) administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
7) administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
8) administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
9) administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
10) provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
There will be a certificate of attendance (no exam).
