You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will have the opportunity to study both Mechanical and Electrical/Electronic Engineering as the modern workplace requires you to have an understanding of both of these areas. You will then have a grounding in general engineering which means you will then be able to make an informed choice about which specialist path you want to follow in any further study.

Course programme
Entry Requirements
You will need to have a level 2 diploma in a related subject (minimum Merit grade) plus GCSEs in maths and English. Alternatively you will need at least 4 GCSEs at grades A – C including maths, science and English.
Delivery and Assessment
You will be assessed both by submitting a number of coursework assignments for each unit and by taking internal exams. All units are assessed and graded internally and an overall grade for the qualification will be awarded.
Progression
Once you have achieved your qualification you can choose to specialise in either Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering in the following year. Many of our students then go on to study for a degree in a variety of Engineering disciplines, apply for Apprenticeships or go onto careers as technicians in the engineering industry.
