The First Aid at Work course complies with the current Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
Where the first aid assessment identifies a need for people to be available for rendering first aid, the employer should ensure that they are provided in sufficient numbers and at appropriate locations to enable first aid to be administered without delay. The course can be adapted to suit the particular audience and covers both theory and practical elements
The course is assessed and on sucsessfulll completion, delegates are awarded a certificate that is valid for three years.
Before taking up first aid duties, a First Aider must hold a valid certificate of competence in First Aid at Work issued by an organisation whose training and qualifications are approved by the HSE.
Course content:
- Dealing with accident and emergencies
- Using a first aid kit
- Record keeping
- Resuscitation
- Treatment of an unconscious casualty
- Choking
- Treatment of heart attacks
- Control of bleeding
- Burns and scalds
- Fractures and soft tissue injuries
- Shock
The course is currently run over three days. The course gives the delegates the knowledge and confidence to deal with First Aid emergencies within the workplace.
The HSE strongly recommend that all holders of this qualification attend an annual first aid update course.
