Course programme

Each week will explore a particular area of folk music performance through specifically chosen tunes and exercises. You will learn melodies, and how to ornament and embellish them, chordal accompaniment including negotiating chord changes and constructing accompaniments, and adding counter-melodies.

During the course, emphasis will be on playing and listening together, with some work in pairs or small groups. You will mainly be taught through large group work, following your tutor's demonstration, with the opportunity for some individual attention. Practice between classes will be helpful to your progress.
