Foundation Degree Criminal Justice (Human Rights) Overview

A career in the criminal justice sector can be satisfying and rewarding, as well as being stimulating and varied. The demand for graduates to enter the sector continues to grow with opportunities across a number of roles.

This course will equip you with the practical skills necessary for employment in the Crown Prosecution Service, the Police Service, probation services, prison service, social work or youth offending agencies.

The course has a significant work-based learning element, in which you will spend time in the justice or related sectors during the two years of the full-time programme.

This course is validated by the University of Derby.

Entry requirements

All applicants will be invited to an interview to discuss qualifications, experience and any other related issues.

To start this course you will be expected to have successfully completed a minimum of one of the following:

  • At least 160 UCAS points at A Level in appropriate subjects.
  • Appropriate BTEC National Extended Diploma with MMP profile or above.
  • Other relevant Level 3 qualification (normally at merit grade).
  • Alternatively, we will consider substantive experience in a relevant field.

We normally also require GCSE English at grade C or above: English at Level 2 is an essential requirement, and maths at Level 2 is desirable.

Please note that GCSE maths or equivalent is required for progression onto the BA (Hons) Criminal Justice (top-up) award or other programme beyond a Foundation Degree.

You will also be required to undertake a self-funded Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to undertaking this course.

Start dates and fees

Course fees are payable for each year of all university-level courses. To identify your course fees and the financial support that may be available to you, please see the HE section of the website or contact a member of the HE team at the college.

Provisional timetables will be discussed at interview, and confirmed in the final joining instructions which all students will receive in July.
