Course outline

This is a course intended to strengthen your skills in Mathematics. It is designed to help you make better progress in AS Level Mathematics. It builds on the skills that you have learnt at GCSE and covers arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, graphs and statistics.

If you have chosen to study AS Level Mathematics and you have a grade B in GCSE Mathematics then you will do this course to help you make progress at AS Level.

If you are not sure about AS Level Mathematics then taking this course would prepare you for AS Level Mathematics next year.

Special entry requirements

If you are taking this course along with the AS Level in Mathematics you will need to have achieved a grade B in the higher tier at GCSE. If you are taking the course to prepare you for AS Level Mathematics next year you must have achieved at least a grade C at GCSE.

How you will learn

Lessons are usually teacher led and could involve investigation, discussion, group work and working on examples. Your progress will be assessed by means of short tests throughout the year. Scientific calculators are used extensively throughout the course.

There is no coursework or practical work.

How you will be assessed

This course is a Level 2 Free Standing Mathematics Qualification. It is assessed by a 2 hour multiple choice examination taken in the summer term.
