French Beginners level 2

Your Course
This 10 week course is suitable for those who have already studied French for one term. The course is based on a communicative approach and aims to develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the foreign language. It aims to enable students to understand and use French effectively for purposes of practical communication, to develop some understanding of grammar and to offer insights into the culture of French speaking countries.
"Voil", published by Hodder Education, (ISBN no: 978-0-340-81367-6), will be used as a focus for the lessons, (units 5-8)
This course feeds into Beginners level 3 in the summer term 2010.
During the Beginners level 2 course students will take short internal assessments in speaking and writing French. This will help to prepare them for the OCR Asset Language external tests that will be taken at the end of the first year of study.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the 10 week course you will have been given the opportunity to:
· Request information on services in a bank or tourist office
· Write a simple letter
· Describe houses and flats
· Practise ordering food and drink at a caf or a restaurant
· Practise apologising and complaining
· Tell the time
· Talk about travel and practise buying tickets
· Practise making bookings in a hotel:

· Regular verbs in the present tense: -ir verbs
· Some irregular verbs: vouloir, pouvoir, aller, faire, devoir

Your Tutor
Joelle McKenzie graduated in Business Administration in Reims, France and completed her teaching qualification at Cambridge University. She is an experienced translator and an accredited teacher and examiner of French at GCSE and A level. Her career spans the worlds of both teaching and business.

Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.
