Course description
This modular course is for students aged 16 and over who wish to have training in all-round Child Care, development and education of children from birth to 16 years.
Practical experience is offered by arranging a variety of work placements. You will undertake work experience 1 day a week and also have termly block placements of two weeks each. You will learn how to observe and plan effectively for young children.
Units included in the course:
Year 1
• An introduction to working with children
• Development from conception to age 16 years
• Supporting children
• Keeping children safe
• The principles of underpinning the role of the practitioner working with children
Year 2
• Promoting a healthy environment for children
• Play and learning in children†s education
• Caring for children
Plus 3 optional units in year 2 and 1 unit that you will study over 2 years, which supports your work placement.

Entry requirements
5 GCSEs grade C or above, including English Language and Mathematics. A Distinction or B grade is required from a Level 2 qualification. Candidates of all ages over 16 are welcome to apply. Selection is by interview with the tutor. In addition, a satisfactory reference and police check are required.

Additional information

*Students aged 16-18 will not be required to pay the full course fee, in most cases your fee will not exceed £150. Please contact us if you need more information regarding fees for full-time courses.
