You are expected to be available to attend College and placement Monday to Friday

9.00am to 5.00pm.

Course description
The Diploma course provides you with the high standard of training you need to begin working with children as a Nursery Assistant.

Course Structure
There are 7 units. Each unit carries a portfolio task and an assignment. There is also a final exam at the end of the year.

Units to be studied include:

• An introduction to working with children
• The developing child
• Safe, healthy and nurturing environments for children and play
• Communication and professional skills within childcare education
• The childcare practitioner in the workplace
• Supporting children and families.

Basic skills in Numeracy and Literacy are an integral part of the course.

Course Assessment
These assignments have hand in dates set by the exam board which must be strictly adhered to.

Course Entry requirements

• 2 GCSE grade C and above including English
• Cache Foundation Award in Caring for Children Level 1 at Distinction.

• All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
• Two references must be provided.
• Application of CRB and Uniform must be applied for.

Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview. There will be fees for CRB of £36.00 and uniform costs of approx. £20.00.

Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

You will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience with electronic babies and take part in a work placement.

Course Career Prospects
This qualification will qualify learners to work in some childcare careers such as Nursery/Playgroup Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Au Pair. However after further study you can progress into careers such as Nursery Nurse, Childminder, Nanny and Crèche Leader.
