Childcare and Education Level 2 CACHE
The CACHE Level 2 in Childcare and Education (CCE) has been developed to give you the skills and confidence to work with young children. A qualified childcare and education worker understands the development of children from birth to eight years and works with children and their families to support the care and education of the child.

What will I study?
The full Level 2 Diploma is worth the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at A*-C and includes a compulsory work placement. We will work with you in the first half term to make sure that you are able to complete the work experience.

If you cannot complete the work experience you may be able to complete a Leve 2 Certificate, which is the equivalent of 2 GCSEs at A*-C.

This is a one-year full time course where you will learn about children at different stages in their growth and development, how to care for and educate them and how to work with parents, carers and other professionals.

You will take the following units:

Unit 1: Physical Care and Development of the Child
Unit 2: Working with Young Children
Unit 3: Emotional and Social Development
Unit 4: Preparing for Employment with Young Children
Unit 5: You will take a 5th unit which could be either:

Unit A: Work with Babies 0-1 year
Unit B: Parents and Carers

Unit 6: Practical Training
This will involve compulsory work experience placements working with children of different ages in a variety of Early Years settings. The College will find these placements for you. Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements to and from placements, which are located city wide. You will need to successfully complete a minimum of 50 days in your setting to pass the course.

How will I be assessed? Assessment will be mainly through assignments. Each unit is assessed including the practical training. There is also a 1 hour multiple-choice exam at the end of the course.

What can I do next?
The CCE trains you to work in a job as an assistant, where you will work under supervision. Jobs could include:
  • Nursery assistant
  • Pre-school assistant
  • Creche assistant
  • Parent/toddler group assistant
  • Toy library worker

Having gained the L2 Diploma, you may progress to other qualifications such as the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (DCE) or other L3 qualifications available at the College.
