Course Description:
This course is suitable if you are looking to work as a nursery nurse, nanny or a teaching assistant or want to progress onto Higher Education.
Course Content:
Nine core units to include the following:
· An Introduction to Working with Children
· Development from Conception to Age 16 Years
· Supporting Children
· Keeping Children Safe
· The Principles Underpinning the Role of the Practitioner Working with Children
· Promoting a Healthy Environment for Children
· Play and Learning in Children's Education
· Caring for Children
· Development of Professional Skills within Children's Education.
There are also three optional units, covering a range of vocational knowledge required in Children's Care Learning and Development. You will be required to undertake a work placement in an early years setting to develop skills demonstrating competence. Therefore, attendance both at college and the work placement is essential.
Assessment:
Various methods are used, including assignments, presentations and work placement in an early years setting, as well as a 3-hour end of course examination.
Next Steps:
Employment as a nursery nurse or nanny. Alternatively Higher Education, such as teacher training, diploma or degree in nursing, social work, degrees in social science or psychology. After gaining experience, further training in nursery management may also
be taken.
