You are expected to be available to attend college up to four days which may include Monday to Thursday 9am to 5.30pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm.
Course Description
This flexible learning course offers the opportunity to build a qualification to suit the needs of the learner and offers a broad background of the travel and tourism sector and the vocational skills required
Course Structure
Core Units:
- Customer Relations for Travel and Tourism
- Introduction to Workplace Communications Skills for Travel and Tourism
Additional Units:
- Introduction to the UK Travel Industry
- Planning Itineraries for Travel and Tourism
- Introduction to the UK Tourism Industry
- Promotional Materials for Travel and Tourism
To achieve the Level 1 Introductory Award in Travel and Tourism, one core unit must be completed and the four additional units.
To achieve the Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Travel and Tourism, both core units must be completed together with the four additional units and a further two units:
Worldwide Travel and Tourism Destinations
Introduction to Retail Travel Services.
Students will also have the opportunity to take additional courses in Resort Representatives, Cabin Crew, PSA, Special Status Passengers and Spanish, plus a key skill.
Course Assessment
Assessment will be portfolio based with some on-line tests for specific qualifications.

Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.
All students will be required to wear an industry standard uniform and purchase a travel atlas at a cost of approx £20
Course Enrichment
Visits will be arranged to Organisations, Regional Attractions, Industry events and Airports. There will also be a residential visit arranged for which the maximum cost is forecast to be £350
Course Progression
Students may progress onto level 2 courses in dedicated Aviation, Cabin Crew or Travel and Tourism pathways.
Course Career Prospects
Learners will improve their chances of gaining employment in the travel and tourism industry such as travel agencies, tour operators, visitor attractions, overseas work such as resort representatives whilst improving their own communication and vocational skills
