Is this course right for me?

This is a great course for people who are hoping to develop a career in the early years and children's sector. If you like the idea of a course which involves work placement, then this could be right for you.

What will I be learning?

The course is made up of 6 units, including The Physical Care and Development of the Child, Emotional and Social Development and Preparing for Employment with Young Children. You will spend time in college as well as undertaking a work placement in an early years or children's setting.

How will I learn?

You will learn through a mix of theory and practical sessions throughout the year and will be assessed through a variety of methods including assignments, reports and projects. An overall grade will be given for completed course work and the satisfactory completion of 390 hours of work placement.

What else might I want to know?

As you will be working with children, acceptance onto this course will require you to have a clear Criminal Records Bureau disclosure. There is also a college uniform requirement while on work placement for which there is a charge. There will also be the opportunity to take part in trips and visits as a part of this programme of study, for which there may be additional costs.

What can I do afterwards?

On successful completion of this course you can progress onto the Diploma in Childcare Level 3 qualification in childcare and Education or Health and Social Care at South Devon College.
Alternatively your qualification could allow you to work in a supervised capacity in the Childcare Sector.
