Is it right for me?
An ideal entry point into the horticulture industry! A blend of practical experience and theory to build on your natural enthusiasm, giving the option of further study or entry into employment.

What qualifications will I need?
Students need to be over 16 and have some level of achievement in GCSE or relevant Further Education qualifications. (Students under the age of 19 may be eligible but specific funding arrangements will apply. Please contact the College for further details).

What will I be learning about?

What is involved?
Three terms at College, work experience 1 or 2 days each week in a garden centre, nursery, landscape department, golf course or glasshouse unit. During the course students are asked to complete projects relating to their placements.

Where will it take me?
Employment with landscape contractors, golf courses, garden centres, gardening firms.

What else does the course include?
City & Guilds Practical Certificate in Gardening

What materials are required?
Practical clothing, overalls, waterproofs, steel toe'capped safety boots, basic stationery. Tetanus protection is recommended.

What is next?
Entry onto National Diploma in Horticulture or an apprenticeship.

How will I be assessed?
A range of continuous assessments including written assignments, practical tests, externally set assessments.
