First Diploma in Travel

What will I be learning?

Throughout the programme you will be developing a broad and relevant understanding of the industry, including specialist travel agency, customer service skills, selling skills, knowledge of visitor attractions and destinations. These will be very useful for future employment or progression to a higher level course.
You may also have the opportunity to select industry focused additional qualifications, enhancing your employment prospects, such as Air Cabin Crew or Resort Representative.

How will I learn?

You will have a range of lecturers and will learn through a variety of activities and practical workshops. You will be expected to participate in group activities as well as working on an individual basis. Assignments will be marked internally. You will be assessed using a variety of methods, such as written assignments, role-plays, group or individual presentations. Assessments will sometimes be based on trips/visits. There are external examinations for Key Skills.

What else might I want to know?

Travel and tourism is a rapidly growing exciting and diverse industry and is constantly evolving. This course will help you develop skills and knowledge to open up a whole range of opportunities, particularly in the travel agency sector. We actively encourage students to participate in many enrichment extra-curriculum activities and put into practice some of the skills and knowledge they have learnt, as well as developing their own personal skills. In the past, these have included hosting a Tourism Careers Fayre and Tourism Conference, meeting and greeting V.I.P.s and local dignitaries visiting the college, spending a day at the BMI cabin crew training centre, working with local tourist attractions and looking at their marketing strategies. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of trips, such as Butlins, Plymouth Marine Aquarium and Disneyland Paris.
Students will be required to purchase a uniform and a portfolio.

What can I do afterwards?

On successful completion of the First Diploma, with a good overall grade, you may be able to progress on to the Professional Diploma in Travel and Tourism or the Diploma in Air Cabin Crew. Alternatively, you will be well placed to gain employment in the travel and tourism sector.
