About this course

Four GCSEs or Level 1 VRQ Food Preparation and Cooking, or several years work experience. Furthermore, students require an industrial placement, paid or unpaid for a minimum of 16 hours per week over the duration of the course. The college will assist in finding these work placements for the student should they require it.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is based on your ability. In order to be assessed as competent you will need to perform consistently over time and in a variety of situations. You will present yourself for assessment when you feel you are ready. You will be assessed in the work place and in College and by your portfolio of evidence. Your portfolio of evidence demonstrates your understanding of the course content. It can comprise written, visual and oral materials. When you have sufficient evidence you will be awarded the VRQ.

What can I do afterwards?
VRQ are based on standards of performance devised by industry and are recognised by potential employers. Completion of this course can lead to employment or higher level VRQ.

Are there any additional costs involved?
Apprentice Scheme available for fee remission.
