Course Description
If you want to build up your qualifications then Gateway to Skills is a flexible alternative Level 1 course.
This one year course offers lots of choice for you to build your own timetable based on your skills and interests. Some of your choices may be unit assessed; some by external examination and some by portfolio.
As a Gateway student you can expect to make friends, gain qualifications and increase your independence. If you need it, you can have extra support; as much or as little as you need to help you achieve your goals. Mentors will help you overcome any problems with your learning by giving you encouragement and helping you to achieve your full potential. You will have a friendly face to talk to when you need it and you will receive additional learning support to help you with any work you may find difficult on the course. Support can be one-to-one or as part of a group, whichever suits you best.
Course Content
This is a wide and varied foundation course offering choice and flexibility. You will study for a vocational Skills qualification at level 1. You will be able to choose from a range of options:

Learners who achieve distinction in their work may be able to progress onto level 2 courses at college.

Work Experience
All learners will participate in work experience. Some learners may select to do work experience as an assessed module and this will involve a term's placement, 1 day a week.
Assessment
Assessment will be by assignment and the gathering of evidence in your portfolio. We will give you help with this.
